What Color is Your Instagram?

by Margaret Penney | January 28, 2016

How do you use color effectively? Our Understanding Color series explores the psychology of color.

If you’re looking for ways to come up with stylish and market-savvy color palettes, Coolors might be just what you need. Coolors offers super fast color palette generation ideas for Instagram, design projects, and more in a simple setup that’s build to foster inspiration.

In the past, we’ve referenced ColorKuler as a way to quickly pull what the current color palette of your Instagram is. However, the key limitation of this tool was within its initial use: it only tells you what your Instagram’s current color palette is and not what it could be. (Also, their website appears to be down.)

Although every graphic designer knows by now the importance of Pantone’s color HEX codes, this is where the wonder of Coolors comes in. This platform not only gives you on-the-spot palette suggestions but also provides the direct Pantone codes associated with each color within the generated palette. No more “guessing” or extra step color-picking is required.

Also within the platform is the ability to upload an image and then generate a color palette selection based on the image.

With this in mind, if your heart’s really set on it, a round-about way of getting a color palette pulled from your Instagram’s 9-square template would be to take a screenshot of a 9-block which you believe truly captures the essence of your profile and then uploading in into the image upload tool for it to analyze.

Designers can create a free Coolors profile and start collecting and creating color palettes to their hearts content. And if you really want to go to the extra mile, you can Go Pro and unlock exclusive palette organization tools, layouts, and much more.

Below are some of the most popular color palettes being used and referenced for Instagram right now. There’s plenty to explore and the only limit is your creativity.

By sticking to one specific palette formula and utilizing it routinely throughout your Instagram’s 9-square templates, you can make a lasting brand impression for your profile, whether it’s an influencer page, a business, or all your own.

Although Coolors is our main recommendation, do your own research and find the best tools that work for you.

The web is full of vivid color palettes for designers to use. Your goal is to simply find the right one that speak directly to you.
