Manrope is a modern sans-serif typeface created by Mikhail Sharanda. Sans-serifs are a bit like wine in the sense that the differences between them can often be so subtle that as long as they do their job, to many they go unnoticed. A good sans serif will quietly serve its purpose without drawing too much attention to itself, and you would be hard-pressed to find a situation where it doesn’t work.
For this reason, it’s perfectly normal to stick to a small stable of reliable workhorses, but for the sommeliers among you, adding another sans serif to your collection certainly can’t hurt, right?
Manrope features clean, geometric letterforms that maintain their readability at any size. It’s semi-condensed but features a tall x-height, giving the negative spaces room to breathe even at small sizes. In addition to its 7 legacy weights, Manrope was updated last year to include variable weight, making it even more flexible than before.
It’s available in both Latin and Cyrillic alphabets and includes a number of contextual alternates and ligatures.
If you’re in the market for a new workhorse or just looking to mix things up a bit, be sure to check out Manrope. You can find it for free here.
