by Margaret Penney | June 1, 2017

You can never have too many tools to help with your typographic design projects. Luckily, designers and developers are crafting new ones all the time that make it possible to create high-quality design savvy typographic web design projects. Listed here are a few new ones that really make the grade.

Type Anything

Type Anything is an online tool for crafting fine-tuned CSS. The visual editor makes it easy to select styles for the type and see them instantaneously applied to a headline or paragraph. Once the type is styles, it’s easy to download the CSS as a stylesheet and add it to your web design project.

Type Nugget

Type Nugget is an online visual editor for styling type that has a lot of lovely font choices and styles to choose from, making it easy for designers to create high-quality typographic designs with CSS.  The CSS created is also totally cross browser and device, so designers can be rest assured their projects will look good on any display.

Font Flame

Font Flame is an app that helps designers assess a variety of font pairs from free typefaces on Google Fonts. It’s a good app for seeing a variety of font combinations really quickly. A curated collection of stellar font combinations is also at the site, including a selection from type expert Jeremiah Shoaf of Typewolf.

Fontface Ninja

Fontface Ninja is a stealthy little browser plugin that allows you to quickly recognize the fonts used in any website, try them out, download them if they’re free or purchase them online. No longer do you have to hunt to find what fonts are used in your favorite websites, finding and applying them can now be quite simple.

Fontreach

Fontreach is a useful app that scans a million sites for font usage, and displays the results in the browser. If you’ve been a web designer for some time, the results will probably be in some ways quite expected. Yes, people still use Arial, Verdana, and Georgia.  It’s interesting to note though the popularity of Google fonts and the Font Awesome icon set, who both have a large showing on many websites.
