Free Font Friday: Chunkfive
by Taylor Slattery | December 27, 2019
Chunkfive is a slab serif typeface designed by The League of Movable Type. It’s a bold typeface with equally thick serifs. It’s got a bit of a retro vibe to it with a little bit of western flavor. It’s the kind of type that wouldn’t look out of place outside of a saloon or on the menu of a throwback diner, two use cases it would be perfectly suited for. It’s not the kind of font you want to use for body copy, though. Its thickness makes it hard to read at small sizes, but it would work well for headers, pull quotes, or hero images.
Chunkfive is a great candidate for situations that call for bold type at a large size. Although it does feel retro, it’s geometric serifs make it capable of blending in with a more contemporary setting as well.
Chunkfive is available in two versions, regular and print, the latter of which has a texture that replicates old newsprint. You can find both of them here.
