Graduate Profile
About me: I have a podcast with one of my best friends called Taking TV Too Seriously. It’s just the two of us, so sometimes it’s not always the most consistent, but I love what we built together! I also love hanging out with my close friends, going to movies, and cuddling with my dog, Jolene. I’m also prone to starting a new art-related ADHD hyperfixation hobby. It can range from Legos to mosaic art to collaging.
Favorite projects: My favorite design projects are branding and visual design, sticker design, apparel design, social media and memes design, and print design, primarily posters.
Why I studied online: Something important to me when I thought about finishing my undergraduate degree was finding somewhere where I could study only what I was interested in that fit my current life. I’ve had remote jobs since 2017, so I’m used to being able to focus, plan and work well online. While it was hard at times working full time and being in school, the classes being all online without me needing to be at class at a specific time helped me shape the schedule of the courses in a way that worked for me.
Best thing about Sessions: One thing I appreciate about Sessions is how the projects allowed me space to develop myself as an artist outside of any specific job. I naturally took to graphic design as a skill, but I never allowed myself to practice design outside my current or past jobs. Sessions helped me feel more confident about what kind of designer I could be. I surprised myself with some of the projects I worked on. Now, when I look at my portfolio, I can see a clear vision of my art style and what that style says to anyone who sees my work.
Favorite class or instructor? I had a lot of favorites! One of them was Special Topics I with Meryl Epstein. The project I developed for that class is one of my favorites. It’s a promotional campaign that focuses on the idea of Black joy. I had so much fun making it that I even pushed myself to design a short animation for the first time.
Creative/professional goals after graduation? I currently work as a Graphic Designer at the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), a non-profit organization. My next step after this position is to eventually find a Creative Director or Art Director job within the non-profit world, if possible. Outside of that, I want to make time to create art for myself that I could sell from time to time. I would primarily focus on items like stickers and prints.

“Micky is a dedicated designer who consistently pushes the envelope of possibilities. I consider myself fortunate to have worked with him and observed how he tackles a challenging project and develops something dynamic and unexpected. I appreciate his willingness to accept and respond to feedback and learn new skills to move a project in a different direction. I look forward to seeing how Micky's career advances!“
